Most people have chapped lips at some time in their life, which is a pretty common ailment. Typically, extreme weather, such as the freezing cold of winter or the baking heat of summer, is to blame. Other factors, such as chemical sensitivity and the effects of some drugs, might also cause your lips to become dry. Read on to find out why you can be more prone to chapped lips during treatment if you have braces or Invisalign aligners. One of the 10 best lip balm for Invisalign on our list will soothe your dry, chapped lips if you have Invisalign or braces.

Contents

  • 1 1. Vaseline
  • 2 2. Supergoop Play Lip Balm SPF 30 with Acai
  • 3 3. Moroccan Magic: Best Lip Balm for Invisalign
  • 4 4. Blistex Medicated Lip Balm SPF 15
  • 5 5. Lucas’ Papaw Ointment
  • 6 6. First Aid Beauty

1. Vaseline

We decided to start our list with one of the cheapest and most widely available remedies for dry, chapped lips: plain ol’ Vaseline. You most likely currently have a jar of the substance in your medical cabinet that is ten years old. If not, you may get one at any supermarket, pharmacy, or superstore, including Walmart.

Try one of Vaseline’s Lip Therapy formulas, which are an improvement above the all-purpose version and are available in a variety of flavors and packaging options (the round tins are very cute!). Vaseline is inexpensive, widely accessible, and effective even if it is not the most environmentally friendly option on our list of lip soothers.

2. Supergoop Play Lip Balm SPF 30 with Acai

One of our favorite squeeze-tube lip balms is the Supergoop Play Lip Balm SPF 30 with Acai because it feels wonderful to apply right from the tube and our panelists like the scent of the smooth gel composition. Think of tropical fruit if you’re not sure what “acai” smells like. One of our test subjects remarked, “It has a really wonderful aroma, a decent, thick consistency, [and] a nice gloss, and its applicator feels both sophisticated and user-friendly.” In contrast to the tubes with screw-on lids that we evaluated, the gel is applied using a slanted plastic applicator that easily fits lips and has a more stylish appearance.

The medium-thick consistency of the Supergoop balm feels wonderfully nourishing on the lips; in our tests, it lasted for almost four hours before we had to reapply. The Supergoop Play SPF 30 has a pleasant berry aroma, in contrast to several SPF balms we tested, including the Aquaphor Lip Protectant + Sunscreen, which had a strong sunscreen scent. We found the screw-on cap’s bright yellow color to be helpful when attempting to locate the lip balm at the bottom of your luggage.

For 0.5 ounces, the lip balm is reasonably priced at $10, which is about typical for the balms we suggest. Although we didn’t try it, the Supergoop Play is also available in mint. Since it is untinted, it is a wonderful option if hydration is more important to you than appearance.

3. Moroccan Magic: Best Lip Balm for Invisalign

The Moroccan Magic Organic Argan & Essential Oil Lip Balm is the next product. It’s not as well-known as the first two drugstore balms on our list, but it’s also less expensive ($3.99 at the time of writing on walgreens.com).

Even at such a low cost, Moroccan Magic only contains organic elements. So this could be the lip balm for you if you’re seeking for something more natural to heal your dry, cracked lips without spending a fortune.

4. Blistex Medicated Lip Balm SPF 15

Try a tube of Blistex Medicated Lip Balm (sometimes it’s only offered in a pack of three) if you’re searching for an inexpensive SPF lip balm that you can get at your neighborhood corner shop. When used, it zaps your lips with menthol, which can be too strong for some people or cooling and energizing. One tube costs less than a $1 when purchased in a multipack, making it one of the most economical items we evaluated. As a result, you can afford to have one on hand in each area of the house.

It works best to reapply the waxy balm every two hours because it spreads thinly across the lips (which Blistex also recommends). The Blistex smells like a freshly scrubbed corridor in an uninhabited, untouched hospital wing, as the word “medicated” in its name indicates, and because of its camphor and menthol blend. I know this sounds bad, but it’s actually comfortable. Because the consistency is matte rather than glossy, it should meld perfectly with the color of your natural lips.

Three 0.15-ounce-sized tubes of Blistex are included in a bundle that costs around $3. It comes packaged in a compact, rigid tube with a little cap and has a conventional appearance. Though it lacks a distinct sense of style—Blistex is certainly not a fashion statement—it is robust and tiny enough to fit everywhere, from the bottom of your luggage to your desk drawer. We are not at all concerned about the Blistex bursting, in contrast to the Supergoop or any other squeeze-tube balm we tested.

5. Lucas’ Papaw Ointment

Lucas’ Papaw Ointment is a fantastic purchase if you have dry skin and lips and want the biggest tube of lip balm you can find. I originally came across this Australian balm while studying abroad in Melbourne, and ever since then, I’ve always had a tube with me, especially on longer journeys when the larger size is more useful. The ointment is more than just a lip balm; it may also ease pain from insect bites, minor burns, and damaged skin. It’s the “big guns,” as we like to say.

The ointment’s fermented papaya concentration, which is what Australians refer to as “papaw,” is said to be a natural antibacterial that aids in the healing of inflamed skin, according to the firm. It’s likely that you’ll want to apply this salve with a finger because it comes out of the tube thick and slick. You might need to clean your hands if you apply too much of it because it is greasier than some of the other lip balms we tried.

Lips are covered by The Original ointment for a few hours in a thin, pleasant layer. Although 0.9 ounces may not seem like much on paper, it is over double the size of the Glossier lip balm we love. The thick red tube is approximately as long and wide as a pair of reading spectacles. Papaw Ointment is small enough to fit in a bag but probably won’t function in a pocket.

6. First Aid Beauty

All the emollients, including jojoba oil, glycerin, and shea butter, that you would anticipate to find in a very effective, highly sought-after lip balm are present in First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair. The use of colloidal oatmeal, which is known to calm inflamed skin, was maybe less anticipated but nevertheless effective. What isn’t included in Ultra Repair is another wonderful feature. It is vegan, soy-free, nano-free, and gluten-free.

It’s reassuring to know that dry, chapped lips caused by braces or Invisalign are probably a brief affliction while your mouth adjusts to the new equipment. Give one of the fantastic lip balms mentioned above a try in the meantime, and your lips will return to being soft and silky just like before!
